    Colombian Farmer Killed by Bomb Collar in 2000

    On May 15, 2000, Elvia Cortés Gil de Pachon, a 53-year-old dairy farmer in Colombia, was killed when a bomb collar, fitted by armed intruders, exploded after a failed defusal attempt. The attackers demanded a ransom of $7,500. The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) were implicated but denied involvement. The incident halted peace negotiations with the government.
