    Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan is standing by his decision to reduce solicitors' free legal aid fees, citing data from his department. The new system, effective July 1, introduces a flat fee of €520 per client, replacing the previous payment structure. Nearly 200 solicitors have threatened to resign from the criminal legal aid panel in protest.
