    Remand reform proposed to address prison overcrowding

    The Irish Penal Reform Trust (IPRT) has called for bail system reforms to alleviate prison overcrowding, currently at 122% capacity. It argues that reducing pre-trial detention for minor offences would significantly ease the crisis. The IPRT also advocates for an adult bail support scheme and decriminalization of personal drug possession to improve justice outcomes and uphold individual rights.
