    Limerick Council Plans to Allocate Vacant Homes

    Limerick City and County Council is considering a plan to expedite the allocation of vacant council homes to families on the housing waiting list, some waiting up to 20 years. Councillor Sarah Beasley proposed allowing tenants to move into structurally safe properties while completing minor upgrades. The council spent €17 million on emergency accommodation in 2025, with over 6,500 people on the waiting list.
