    Man sentenced for collecting deceased granduncle's benefits

    Ryan Thornton, a 27-year-old from Louth, received 150 hours of community service after pleading guilty to collecting over €20,000 in benefits for his deceased granduncle. He admitted to the charges and is repaying the Department of Social Protection at €50 per week. Thornton has no prior convictions and has stopped drinking and using drugs.
