    On June 30, 1971, Soviet cosmonauts Georgi Dobrovolsky, Vladislav Volkov, and Viktor Patsayev died during their return from the Soyuz 11 mission due to sudden depressurization. They had completed a 24-day mission aboard the Salyut 1 space station. Reports indicate a malfunction in explosive bolts caused rapid loss of consciousness and death within minutes.
