    90% of NI parents wrongly targeted in fraud crackdown

    A recent report reveals that around 90% of Northern Ireland families flagged by HMRC for child benefit fraud were legitimate claimants. The crackdown, based on faulty travel data, incorrectly suggested many had emigrated. Of 826 families flagged, only 81 were found to be fraudulently claiming benefits. The scheme has faced criticism for its high error rate and lack of oversight.
