    EU Considers Sanctions on Aughinish Alumina Refinery

    The EU is contemplating sanctions against the Aughinish Alumina refinery in Limerick for its alumina exports to Russia. An Irish report found no evidence of the plant supporting Russia's war efforts, despite increased exports to Russia since 2023. The European Commission is reviewing the refinery's role in Russia's aluminium supply chains while discussions on sanctions are currently paused.
